The final Grinold Chapter New England Division III Football Coaches poll of the 2022 season has been released, and undefeated Endicott College, the Commonwealth Coast Conference champion went wire to wire as the choice as the top team in New England, garnering 11 of 14 first place votes in this week’s poll.
The Gulls top runner-up Trinity College by 11 points in the poll. The New England Small College Athletic Conference champion Bantams captured the other three first place votes. UMass Dartmouth, the Massachusetts state College Athletics Conference titlist, continues in third place. New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference champion Springfield remains in the fourth spot and Plymouth is fifth. The poll is rounded out by Western Connecticut, Middlebury, Tufts, Wesleyan and Salve Regina.
The New England Division III Football Poll is presented by the Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, which also serves as the title sponsor of the weekly Gold Helmet Awards presented by the New England Football Writers Association throughout the season.
A panel representing all five New England Division III playing conferences will serve as voters in this year’s poll, and rankings will be released each Monday afternoon through November 14th. Members of this year’s voting panel are Nat Clark (Husson), Kevin Gilmartin (Salve Regina), Mike Lichten (University of New England), C.C. Grant (Coast Guard), Ken Johnson (MIT), Chris Robertson (WPI), Jack Cosgrove (Colby), Jeff Devanney (Trinity), Jay Civetti (Tufts), Steve Croce (Anna Maria), Tom Kelley (Framingham), Jeremy Cameron (Massachusetts Maritime) and Mark Robichaud (UMass Dartmouth).
