DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The final Grinold Chapter New England Division III football weekly rankings of the 2018 season have been released, and MIT holds the top spot for the seventh time in eight weeks.
The NEWMAC champion Engineers received 11 first place votes to outdistance runner-up Trinity, as the NESCAC co-champion Bantams collected two first place votes. MASCAC champion Framingham State (which garnered the other first place vote) follows in third place, while NESCAC co-champion Amherst and Commonwealth Coast champion Western New England round out the top five. ECFC champion Husson stands in sixth place in the final rankings, while Tufts, Western Connecticut, Springfield and Endicott complete the final poll of the 2018 campaign.
The New England Division III Football Poll is presented by the Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, which also serves as the title sponsor of the weekly Gold Helmet Awards presented by the New England Football Writers Association throughout the season.
A panel representing all five New England Division III playing conferences will serve as voters in this year’s poll, and rankings will be released each Monday afternoon through November 12th. Members of this year’s voting panel are Skip Bandini (Curry), Katie Boldvich (Eastern Collegiate Football Conference), Brian Bubna (MIT), Jeremy Cameron (Massachusetts Maritime), Jay Civetti (Tufts), Jeff Devanney (Trinity), Bill George (Coast Guard), Kevin Gilmartin (Salve Regina), Tom Kelley (Framingham State), Paul McGonagle (Endicott), Gabby Price (Husson), Chris Robertson (WPI), Mark Robichaud (UMass Dartmouth) and Tony Volpone (Castleton).
